Birmingham v Eagles Preview

Eastbourne Eagles are riding for a semi-final place less than a month into their return to professional speedway.

They go to Birmingham tonight (May 1) with a place in the Championship Shield semis up for grabs.

The competition has, so far, been run through three regional groups with the winners of each section automatically getting to the last four.

The last semi-finalist will be the “best” of the second placed teams.

A win for the Fineprint Eagles at Birmingham will automatically put them through.

Defeat or a draw leaves them hoping to be the “best of the rest”.

Co-promoter Trevor Geer said: “We were running Somerset close last week until they got away from us over the last three heats.

“The riders know what they have to do at Birmingham and we are more than capable of getting the win we need.”
