All roads lead to Arlington on Sunday

All roads lead to Arlington Stadium on Sunday (July 18) afternoon for 30 heats of Speedway, with tapes up for the first meeting at 3pm.

Leicester are the visitors in both Championship and National Development League (NDL) action and in both cases the East Midlands club are the defending champions.

The visitors are certain of plenty of support on the terraces as Eastbourne report strong ticket sales to the Leicester area.

The club also reports significant interest in the meeting from further afield, with a number from the South and South West and even from Aberdeen coming to East Sussex.

The influx of ‘away’ fans means – as things stand – that Eagles and Seagulls fans could be outnumbered in a Covid-19 limited crowd.

Co-promoter Lee Kilby said: “If that happens, it would be a shame, especially as Nathan Ablitt is making his home debut at Championship level and Vinnie Joe Foord is beginning his career with Eastbourne less than a week after he became 15.

“They’re local lads from Hailsham on a huge day in their careers and they will appreciate a big Arlington roar as they come out to ride.”

Kilby said it appeared Eastbourne’s core support was leaving it later than usual to book tickets.

“People are used to the process and we don’t want regular fans to miss out if sales accelerate quickly.

“We are still operating under a Covid-19 limit and we encourage everyone to purchase as soon as possible and to come to what should be two cracking matches with every chance of more last heat excitement in both,” Kilby said.

A reminder that anyone who wishes to watch just the Championship Meeting will have an opportunity to exit the Stadium between the two fixtures and gain a £6 voucher (the difference between Championship and Double Header Fixtures) to use at the cash turnstiles for any Eastbourne fixture in 2021, commencing on Saturday, July 14.
