Eastbourne Speedway’s Tom Brennan will be one of Great Britain’s two representatives in this year’s European Under-21 championship.
The Hassocks-based teenager received the call-up after the nation’s first choice for the place, Dan Bewley, was injured.
The HG Aerospace Eagle will take his place in the qualifying round in the Czech Republic on August 1.
To help pay for the trip, Tom is looking for sponsorship and has launched a fund-raiser which fans can take part in.
It caps a remarkable fightback from a serious injury in May 2019 for Brennan, who not only suffered a badly broken leg, but was also placed in an induced coma for a few days after breathing complications following the injury.
As well as aiming for U-21 glory, Brennan also has a place in the European Under-19 qualifier in the Czech on August 14.
In that meeting he will be joined by fellow Eastbourne teenage tornados, Jason Edwards and Drew Kemp.
Brennan said when he received the late call to the U-21s it was a “no brainer”.
“I didn’t really have time to process it because as soon as I ended the call I just started getting things ready. I wanted to be as prepared as possible so it was just having to get a plan of action in place,” he said.
He said he was looking forward to making the final in both competitions.
“I did the Under-19s two years ago and, if it wasn’t for my own mistake, I would have brought home third.
“In two years I’ve definitely grown as a rider and especially with all the help I’ve had during lockdown from Martin Dugard [former Eastbourne No 1] and Craig Cummings [manager/mechanic for former world champion, American Billy Hamill].
“I know I’m capable of putting my name out in Europe for sure.”
