Countdown to Eagles v Redcar

Eastbourne Eagles will be hoping for a bumper turnout on Saturday evening as they return to Arlington stadium for the first time in three weeks.

What a way to return as they welcome the newly crowned British Champion Charles Wright who leads team ‘very much’ in form, the Redcar Bears to the Sussex venue.

The Sussex club have certainly not been idle during the period of Arlington ‘down time’ with no fewer than five travelling engagements, at Redcar, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Berwick and Newcastle undertaken.

It has proved a time of mixed fortunes for the team on the road but it culminated in a glorious triumph as they secured their first league away win of the campaign, a thrilling last gasp 47-43 victory at the home of the Diamonds.

Club director, Ian Jordan, said: “We were overwhelmed by the magnificent support and the wonderful fans who followed the team on our Northern Tour last weekend”

“A good time was had by all for sure but the win at the Newcastle Stadium proved the crowning point of the tour and the perfect reward for our loyal following”.

“With the league calendar now done and dusted away from home we are determined to end our home league programme with a bang, starting this Saturday with the visit of Redcar, and of course the British Champion”

Eagles welcome back skipper Edward Kennett to the line-up, their number one having served his ten day suspension following the recent Championship Shield clash with Glasgow.

It will prove no easy return however as Redcar are fast emerging as the team to beat with Erik Riss and Michael Palm Toft forming a powerful spearhead alongside Wright.

“ We still have an awful lot to play for with a Championship Final against Leicester and a Knockout Cup Semi-Final (and hopefully then Final) against the Bears to looked forward to” Ian Jordan continued.

“All that and league matches against both Sheffield and Birmingham still to come”

“We ask for our fans to continue to turn out in their numbers and this will help us build momentum for what is sure to prove an exciting month ahead”

The Club will also be announcing a “SPECIAL September Sizzler” on the Club Website and Social Media on Friday that will reward Supporters who collect and keep Ticket Stubs from both of the League matches v Redcar on Saturday and Sheffield on the 31st August” with a “Discount Reward” applicable to both the Knock Out Cup Semi Final (on 7th September) and Championship Shield Final (on 14th September)  Jordan concluded.
