Eagles v Monarchs – Meeting Preview

Eastbourne Speedway team manager has named his team for Saturday’s match against high-flying Edinburgh.

Trevor Geer has opted not to change the riding order and will use rider replacement to cover for his injured captain Lewi Kerr.

One big headache that Geer faced was removed when teenage tornados, Tom Brennan and Drew Kemp, became unexpectedly available for the match.

They had been due to be in Germany in a World Championship Under-21 qualifier but were ruled out by Covid restrictions.

Geer said all members of the HG Aerospace Eagles, other than Edward Kennett, were available to cover Kerr’s programmed rides.

At the same time, Kennett resumes as captain.

He said: “Edinburgh have plenty of firepower in their team and in Sam Masters have one of the biggest stars in the Championship.

“They also have Richie Worrall, another big gun.

“However, I am confident we can cover for Lewi, especially as Richard Lawson can take one of his rides.

“We did look at a suitable guest for Lewi Kerr.

“However, the choice was limited because six teams are racing on Saturday night.

“Kent riders are ineligible to guest as they have ridden at the track within eight days.

“We looked at suitable options like Steve Worrall, who had performed so well for Poole at Arlington, but like several others he indicated to us that he was unavailable.

“So rider replacement (R/R) and sharing the rides amongst our own team is the best option for us.

“It also gives Tom and Drew the opportunity to take out their frustration by hammering in some big scores.”

Kerr is hoping to have surgery on his broken collarbone at the end of the week and hopes to be back riding quite soon.

Once again, because of Covid-19 restrictions, the match is all-ticket.

Tickets are available from the club website and the message is don’t leave it too late to buy like around 100 people have done for the opening two fixtures at Arlington.

Tickets are available until sold out, or until midnight on Friday (whichever is sooner), to comply with council ticketing regulations.

There is no walk-up on-the-day ticket sales by cash or card and no online match tickets will be available for the clash with Edinburgh on match day itself.
