Wood fit to ride

Eastbourne face a busy weekend with three matches in four days.

Tomorrow (Thursday, August 30) they head to the Isle of Wight for a National League fixture with high hopes of a win.

Team manager Connor Dugard said: “The team is gelling and we are looking for four league points to push us up into the Play Off spots.”

Dugard is able to name a full team, with Ethan Spiller back in the reserve berth after missing last week’s win over Coventry at Arlington.

Georgie Wood, who left the Eastbourne track last Saturday in an ambulance after a major crash, has been cleared to ride.

Wood will move up again to the No 1 spot on Saturday (September 1) when the Forman IT Eagles face the Kent Kings at Arlington.

His form over the last month has seen him top the club’s averages, which automatically gives him the No 1 racejacket.

Last time Kent came to Arlington they were thrashed, but since then the Kings have regrouped and look set to be in the end-of-season Play Offs.

Dugard commented: “Of course, it is going to be a tough match. We expect nothing less when we face Kent.

“We are at full strength and improving all the time.

“This is going to be big four weeks. It is crunch time and we aim to take points from all matches.

“Once the Play Offs begin, the title is anybody’s and we want it to be ours.

On Sunday, Eastbourne go to Mildenhall for a NL fixture against the runaway league leaders.

Eagles on the Island: Tom Brennan, Jason Edwards, Mark Baseby, Charley Powell, Georgie Wood, Ethan Spiller, Charlie Brooks.

For the home fixture Wood and Brennan swap places.

Kent: Ellis Perks (G), Anders Rowe, Nathan Stoneman, Taylor Hampshire, Jack Thomas, TBC, Alex Spooner.
