BRITISH Speedway clubs have today agreed a start date of early May for the 2021 season.
Fixtures will be published next week for both the Premiership and Championship.
Plans are in place for a new concept in both leagues with more details to follow. The plans have been made to adapt to the current situation regarding Polish restrictions on the amount of leagues riders can race in, plus the ongoing challenges presented by the pandemic.
There is a clear pathway for the development of British Speedway and young British riders, not just in 2021 but in the years ahead.
In addition, whilst there is disappointing news about losing Swindon and Somerset for 2021, these decisions have been made by these clubs to protect their futures from 2022 onwards. They will be welcomed back into the sport next year.
Another club has expressed an interest in joining the Championship and this will be explored in due course.
More details regarding the 2021 season will be revealed alongside our broadcast partners Eurosport in the coming days.
The Eagles Promoter Trevor Geer commented:
“I was delighted with the new concept being introduced this coming season.
It’s just a big shame that the COVID pandemic is delaying the start date of exiting times ahead”

The Directors, Management and Riders of Eastbourne HG Aerospace Eagles and the Eastbourne Seagulls MSDL squad, powered by the “Save Thurrock Hammers” Campaign, wish all of our Sponsors, Supporters and Speedway Fans everywhere a Very Happy Christmas and hopefully a safe and Happy New Year.
The past 12 months have been unprecedented and recent developments suggest that the start of 2021 is going to be equally tough.
We are naturally concerned that many of our Sponsor and Supporter base are now living in Tier 4 Areas, and the vast majority of the remainder in Tier 2 areas.
Please follow the guidelines and stay safe; our thoughts and good wishes are with you all.
Whilst things are not good at the moment, as the saying goes “it’s darkest before dawn” and we sincerely hope to see you all in the Spring of 2021 for some Speedway action.
Hopefully we will be able to return to a safer and more traditional way of life once the extensive planned vaccination programmes and hopefully warmer weather have had a chance to work their magic.
It’s time to knock Covid 19 firmly on the head.
We are working right now with other Championship clubs and the BSPL to have a credible fixture list that can be announced early in 2021 with Covid-19 contingencies built in.
We would thank the BSPL for all of their hard work in an incredibly tough period for all sports.
Our initial target has been to start competitive Speedway on Good Friday, April 2, with an exciting Challenge Match and we will continue to monitor that once we get into 2021, and things become clearer.
We are aware that current BSPL planning is for The Championship season to commence in early May 2021.
We look forward to that and to also including, we hope, a couple of exciting and exclusive fixtures to our list in due course, including the long awaited, and often delayed 90th Anniversary Meeting and Ex-Riders Reunion Event in early September.
We remain 100% committed to rolling all ongoing Sponsorships and Advertising over to 2021 and to honouring:
- All 2020 Full Season and 10 Match Tickets in 2021 on exactly the same terms as they were initially sold.
- The pledge made consistently and continually in 2020, of refunds being available, to anyone, Sponsor / Advertiser or Supporter; who feels in a position of financial difficulty.
If you need help, please contact us here
We cannot wait to see our exciting seven-man ALL British declared 1-7 in Championship action and equally we are very excited about our MSDL Seagulls squad of talented riders, including the ground-breaking female rider, Francesca Wright.
It’s possible that we may have a few other surprises in store, depending on developments closer to the start of the 2021 season.
At a time when so many of us will be unable to see our loved ones and friends, please spare a thought for those who are local to you who may be vulnerable and / or lonely and check on them when it is safe to do so.
There has never been a more important time for “togetherness”.
Enjoy Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all….see you in 2021

Thank you once again for your fantastic support for the first Eagles 50/50 Club draw which took place in December.
The next draw is scheduled to take place on January 1st 2021. We are aware that many existing 50/50 Club members want to have recurring numbers and have set up Direct Debits / Standing Orders or recurring Paypal payments.
We will update the draw database with these details and on FRIDAY December 18th, we’ll re-open the draw for anyone who wants to join for the January 1st Draw.
The added flexibility of the 50/50 Draw will allow us to have more than 100 numbers and we will make extra tranches of 25 numbers available when required.
This will increase the PRIZE Fund and Prizes available, and of course be an added boost to the Air Bag Fund.
If you joined the December Draw and want to retain your number, can you please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org before midday on Thursday, December 17th
In order to keep our Supporters fully briefed and to be totally transparent; the contents of the Press Release from Glasgow Tigers Speedway released this morning are as a result of rumours circulating in the public domain.
(Click here to read the Tigers Statement)
We would wish our Supporters to know that we agree 100% with the comments made on behalf of Glasgow Tigers Speedway; whilst hoping that a satisfactory resolution can be reached for the benefit of the Sport in general by the BSPL, and positively committing to assist with that aim.
We will make no further public comment until a final decision has been made other than to signify our total support in solidarity of the retention of the 41 point limit and our declared all British 1-7.
Eastbourne HG Aerospace Eagles.
The results of the Eagles 50/50 Club draw are shown on the draw video below.
Winners will be notified with payment completed by 5pm on the 2nd of December.
To take part in the January draw, follow us on Facebook ahead of further announcements. The final numbers selected were as follows:
Number 79 is reserved for “The Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund” The Club will make a £10 Contribution to cover this number.
If Number 79 wins any prize, we will donate that amount to The Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund who do fantastic work helping injured Riders and those in difficulty. They normally raise around £30,000 a season through Track Collections and have missed out on this substantial Funding this season.
Why Number 79?
In 1979 one of Eastbourne’s favourite ever sons, Steve Weatherley was seriously injured in a Crash at Hackney that tragically took the life of Vic Harding.
The Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund has, over the years given great support to Steve, and other riders who have suffered life changing injuries and their families.
The least we can do is to offer some form of funding opportunity, in addition to our usual Annual Collection which in 2019 was the highest of the 2020 Championship Clubs.
Steve is a regular visitor to Speedway at Arlington, a true inspiration to everyone and much loved and respected across the Speedway world.
The Eagles have introduced a simpler and far more transparent 50/50 Draw to replace the TeamBuilder prize draw, as explained in the first edition of our new magazine, Flying High.
The aim is for at least 100 participants each month – The cost will be £10 per month for one number, and you can buy as many shares and numbers as you wish.
50% of the total fund each month, which will be announced before each draw, will be allocated in Prize Money and 50% will go to the Club to fund a new Air Fence, further information on which is detailed below.
If the total pot is £1000 – 50% will be in the Prize Pot of which 60% will be First Prize and there will be 2 further prizes of 25% and 15%.
As an example, if the total pot is £1000 there will be a Prize Pot of £500 (50%) – 1st Prize is £300 / 2nd is £125 / and 3rd is £75. The remaining 50% (£500) will go to the “Air Fence Fund”
The draw will be made at the beginning of each month (either via the Eagles website, or at the Stadium at a live match) and will be conducted using a computerised “Random Draw Generator” for full transparency.
How to take part
There are some numbers already allocated to ex-TeamBuilder members who subscribe by standing order. Their ongoing support is very much appreciated.
The process for new 50/50 Members is very simple.
If you want to reserve a number for the current draw simply notify us an available number on this Facebook thread (please note to ensure you can enter into the draw, you MUST answer on the Official Facebook thread and NOT one that is shared elsewhere).
We will add your name to the list. Once we have 100 names / numbers or more the DRAW will be CLOSED, or the draw will be closed at midnight on the 30/11.
We will then advise everyone via email, of how to Pay (Paypal using any Debit or Credit Card or Fastpay Bank Transfer). Please do NOT attempt to pay until you receive that e-mail.
You will be confirmed in the DRAW once payment is received.
The draw will be done by Automated Number generation. If a number is drawn that is not allocated – we will re-generate until we have 3 confirmed Winners.
The first Draw will take place on Tuesday the 1st December.
The Eagles Air fence Fund
All club funds (the 50% NOT in the Prize Pot) will be automatically passed to a new “AIR FENCE FUND”.
The current Air Fence is nearing to the date at which it will have to be upgraded. We believe that the safety of riders and indeed supporters is of paramount importance. We aim therefore to have a completely NEW Air-Fence installed in the winter of 2021 / 2022 ready for the 2022 season.
Technology has moved on and we now have the option to consider a conventional Air Fence (cost will be approximately £25,000) or a more modern and probably longer lasting “Foam Fence” (cost is around £45,000).
There are significant “time savings” that a Foam Fence may assist with. It currently takes 3 people approximately 5-6 hours to put up and take down the existing fence (Air Bags and Boards) and a Foam Fence (on the bends) would probably cut this time by at least 50%, probably more.
It is the intention and probability that Eastbourne Eagles Limited – The company that operates Speedway at Arlington – will have to find the full cost of the new fence.
It will almost certainly be required to be in place by 2022 to ensure SCB / BSPL safety compliance and Track Inspection criteria. We aim to have a fence that is FIM compliant opening up the opportunity for FIM Events, if they are allocated to us at any time in the future.
The other advantage for us purchasing the new Air fence is that it will also become a long-term tangible asset for the next generation of Speedway at Arlington Stadium.
