Drew retains U19 Title

Young Eastbourne Eagle Drew Kemp retained his British Under-19 title yesterday (September 20).

He rode unbeaten in the final held at Scunthorpe to win with a 15-point maximum.

The HG Aerospace Eagles had two other representatives in the final – Tom Brennan who scored eight points and Jason Edwards, six points.

Kemp, who rides in the Premiership for his parent club, Ipswich, joined Eastbourne in the winter for the 2020 Championship campaign.

However, the Covid-19 pandemic caused the season to be cancelled.

Eastbourne Speedway Director, Ian Jordan, was delighted with Kemp’s success.

He said: “It was a fantastic personal performance by Drew who as defending Champion showed his class and maturity to win with a 15 point maximum as he did last year.

“We are indebted to Drew’s parent Club Ipswich for loaning Drew to us for the 2020 season and with everyone in the Sport seemingly wanting 2021 to start with the same format and team line-ups that we all planned for 2020, we very much hope to see Drew at Arlington in 2021 as an Eastbourne HG Aerospace Eagle.

“Both Tom and Jason, who are full club assets, had some genuine back luck costing them both vital points.

“They are both benefiting massively though from being members of the Team GB Academy, like Drew, and working hard in this truncated season.

“This experience bodes very well for them and the Club in 2021.

“With these three outstanding young talents and our four other excellent British riders, and others waiting in the wings to develop over the next few seasons too, the future looks very bright, and we now look forward to next Saturday’s British Final, where we will be represented by no less than 5 of the 16 man field.”
