Eagles take 3TT

Tom Brennan was Eastbourne Speedway’s hero as he snatched victory in the final race of a three-team tournament at Plymouth last night (September 8).

All three teams produced a competitive and compelling meeting, played out in front of a Covid 19 restricted capacity crowd, and a live audience watching a superb stream via the Speedway Chat show.

The HG Aerospace Eagles Select looked to have established a winning lead by the half-way stage but two machine problems let the Isle of Wight and Plymouth back into the match.

In the final race, Eastbourne’s Tom Brennan came from the back to pip Henry Atkins on the line.

The final scores rested at Eastbourne 31, Isle of Wight 30, Plymouth 28.

Brennan had earlier ground to a halt with a broken chain when winning heat 11 and Jake Knight ran out of fuel in heat 13 when second.

Eastbourne team manager, Will Pottinger, said:

“I think the track got better as the meeting went on. It would have been a bit more comfortable victory, apart from a couple of mishaps.

We got over the line in the end. It was a fantastic last race from Tom Brennan.

Jake Knight put in a good performance and put himself in the shop window. Jason Edwards was consistent. He struggled a bit off the starts – everybody has come into it pretty cold.

Connor King got better as the night went on and became more aggressive.

It was nice to come all this way and go home with a win.”

Final scores:

Eastbourne 31 – Tom Brennan 10, Jason Edwards 10, Jake Knight 9+2, Connor King 2+2

Isle of Wight 30 – Ben Morley 13, Connor Coles 11, Tom Woolley 4, Chad Wirtzfeld 2

Plymouth 28- Alfie Bowtell 12, Henry Atkins 11, Richard Andrews 4+1, Arran Butcher 1, Chris Andrews (res) 0
